Montreal’s Yaourti Brings the Greek Treats, Inspired by Islands

Greek yogurt has swept the world in recent years because it's real yogurt, rich and thick and creamy, and spawned a lot of “Greek-style” versions that are weak imitations but you can still find the real thing, if you know where to look.

In Montreal, it's at Yaourti, a Mediterranean-inspired, Greek yogurt-forward restaurant located in the heart of downtown.

"Yaourti is a story of a Greek family, a family that just loves Greek yogurt and decided to share its Mediterranean heritage and passion with Montrealers through delicious, yogurt-forward dishes," co-owner Kleio Reppa told MTL Blog.

Inspired by the Greek islands, Yaourti's menu offers dishes to eat in or take to-go and it's not just yogurt because there's also sweet and savory yogurt bowls, salads, sandwiches, soups, smoothies and desserts, each with the "magic touch of yogurt," the team says. Frozen yogurt is available as well as vegan and gluten-free options.

The design is Mediterranean and some of the ceramics and pottery displayed are for sale by local artists. “The cafe dons serene, neutral tones with pops of color, – quintessential Greece mixed with hints of Montreal,” the report said.

Food Network host Guy Fieri, who gets around the United States and now lives in Florida, went to the Hellenic Republic restaurant in Coral Springs and said he had “hands down, the best Greek food he's had.
