Mitsotakis to Politico: Turkey Must Face Consequences for Provocations

December 4, 2020

ATHENS — The issues between Greece and Turkey concern Europe as well, as they affect the entire Eastern Mediterranean region, noted Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during a discussion with Politico journalist Matthew Kaminski, on the sidelines of Lisbon's online "Web Summit 2020".

These problems also concern NATO, as they affect its southeastern hub, he observed.

Greece has made it clear that Turkey must face the consequences if it continues its provocative actions, the Greek premier stressed.

What Turkey does need to pursue in practical terms is "a real policy shift in the Eastern Mediterranean," because "mere words no longer suffice," Mitsotakis highlighted.

The Greek tourism market is seeing a remarkable recovery and while it is most obvious in Athens – that’s where the media is – the powerful signs include the packed ferries and planes that connect with the islands of the South Aegean, with their iconic whitewashed houses that are what most people outside Greece think about when they contemplate visiting.
