Mitsotakis, Anastasiades Discuss Actions ahead of Special European Council on Turkey

September 23, 2020

ATHENS — Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke on the phone with Cyprus' President Nicos Anastasiades on Tuesday.

The two leaders discussed the coordination of Greece and Cyprus' actions in view of the special summit of the European Council on Turkey.

EU summit this week postponed to October 1-2

The Special European Council meeting scheduled for September 24-25 in Brussels has been postponed to October 1-2, a spokesman for President Charles Michel announced on Tuesday.

The EU summit was postponed because a staff member in Michel's office tested positive to the coronavirus. The European Council president is in quarantine preventatively, although he tested negative for the virus on Monday.

The meeting's agenda includes the single market, industrial policy and digital transformation, as well as external relations, in particular relations with Turkey and with China. EU leaders will also have an opportunity to take stock of the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
