Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
NEW YORK – Minos Papas, the award-winning director, producer, and founder of Cyprian Films New York, shared an update with The National Herald about his latest feature film ‘Motherwitch’, a Cypriot folklore fantasy, as the first teaser is set to premiere for the 20K+ fans during Cyprus Comic Con October 5-6.
Papas said via email: “After five years of development, we shot this unique 19th-century folk horror film on location in an abandoned 15th-century stone village. The international cast and crew— from Cyprus, England, Greece, North Macedonia and beyond— made this experience unforgettable. You’ll love the handcrafted practical effects we used, from cloud tanks to projectiles.”
“The past year was packed with film festivals (Sundance, SXSW, American Cinematheque’s PROOF FF) and this year, it’s all about production,” Papas said.
The exclusive sneak preview of ‘Motherwitch’ is set for Sunday, October 6, 9:45 PM, in Hall A at Cyprus Comic Con.

Papas also noted that he and his wife and partner Liz Sargent have moved from New York to Los Angeles. “Liz and I have officially made the move from NYC to LA,” Papas said. “After 24 years in New York, this was a big, emotional shift— but the excitement in LA is contagious. Despite all the changes in the film industry right now, I’m optimistic about what’s ahead for both ‘Motherwitch’ and ‘Take Me Home.’ LA has already opened so many doors, and I can’t wait to see where this adventure takes us.”
