The full interview follows:

TNH: How are you Mr. Dukakis? How is your summer going?

Michael Dukakis: Aging, 91, but I keep going. Kitty and I had a good life and we are aging.

TNH: What are your thoughts regarding political developments in America after the exit of President Joseph Biden from the presidential campaign?

Michael Dukakis: I think it was the right thing to do and I think Vice President Camala Haris is a good person and she will do a good job.

TNH: Do you think that Mr. Biden should have exited earlier?

Michael Dukakis: It is a very tough decision – very tough. It always is, but I think in this case he did the right thing.

TNH: Do you believe that The Vice President Harris will make a good candidate?

Michael Dukakis: Yes, yes, I do.

TNH: Would she be able to defeat Trump?

Michael Dukakis: Will see, but I think so.

TNH: How do you explain the fact that America has arrived at a point where it might elect a person such as Mr. Trump, with all his problems, including the fact that he is now a convicted felon?

Michael Dukakis: Well, you have to ask the people who made that decision. Needless to say I am not their fan. I don’t understand why the selected somebody like this.

TNH: Based on your experience, if you had two pieces of advice to give Kamala Harris what they would be?

Michael Dukakis: First I like her because she is a good public servant, secondly she has the experience that makes it possible to do the job and do it well, in that sense I am happy with the outcome. She has to go out there and work very hard the next four months and she will be fine.

TNH: Our mutual friend Senator Paul Tsongas of blessed memory, when I interview him, always stressed the necessity for a third party in the U.S. How do you fell about that today?

Michael Dukakis: No, I am not a fan of a third party. I don’t think it is a good idea.

TNH: Do you have any comment about Mr. Menendez’ conviction and his decision to resign?

Michael Dukakis: I am not an expert on New Jersey politics, but I think in this particular case he did the right thing for him.

TNH: Do you follow the politics in Greece?

Michael Dukakis: Of course. Mitsotakis seems to be doing very well and that was not the situation a few years ago, as we all know. I feel good about Greece. I like what they are doing and I hope it continues.
