DRACUT, MA – William M. ‘Billy Zee’ Zounes, age 88, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully on March 2 at Lowell General Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born in Schenectady, NY on August 27,1933 and was a son of the late Michael and Mary (Estes) Zounes.
Bill attended Lowell High School, after which he joined the United States Army as a Communications Officer during the Korean War. He was employed at Raytheon for many years. Later in his career he served as the Director of Veteran Affairs, first in Lowell and later in Dracut. Assisting local veterans was very important to Bill as he truly enjoyed helping others. During his years of service in Dracut, he was honored at the Massachusetts State House and was awarded best ‘Veteran’s Agent of the Year in 2005. He enjoyed golf and music, especially Greek, Big Band, and Jazz. His passion was recording his favorite music and sharing it with his friends and family. Bill was a man of deep faith. His kindness, generosity and compassion will be remembered by all who knew him.
Bill is survived by his son, Michael Zounes of Dracut, his daughter, Marianne Mullin of Hampstead, NH, and his friend and former wife, Lynne Cote.
In addition to his parents, Bill is predeceased by his brothers, John and Charles Zounes and his loving former wife, Ann C. (Apostolakes) Zounes.
His Funeral Service was held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox of Lowell, and burial followed in Westlawn Cemetery.
