Memory Eternal of James L. Boenis

LOWELL, MA – Mr. James L Boenis, 72, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 31, 2021 with his family by his side.

Jim was born on September 25, 1949 in Lowell, the son of the late Louis and Tessie (Makris) Boenis. He was the loving husband of 27 years to the late Maureen (Kinnon) Boenis whom he lost on May 14, 2011 and the loving owner of his cherished Labrador, the late Chloe.

A proud lifelong resident of the Acre section of Lowell, Jim was educated through the Lowell schools, graduating from Lowell High School in 1967. He later went to graduate from St. Anselm College in 1971.

Jim and his late wife Maureen bought Century 21 Sager Real Estate in 1996 and operated the business until selling it in 2019. He was a member of the Northeast Association of Realtors for many years. Jim was an avid photographer and loved capturing family photos, especially of his grandchildren. He also enjoyed travelling annually to Marco Island, Florida with his wife Maureen.

He was a faithful, lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and community. Jim enjoyed meeting with his friends every Friday to catch up on the local sports teams and the news over a cup of coffee. He was an avid local sports fan with a great love for the Red Sox.

His family would like to thank Dr. Meltsakos for his kindness and medical advice and support over the past several years.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Alexandra Nyberg and her husband Kevin and their daughters, Emily and Sarah; his son Gregory Boenis; three stepsons, Ralph Martinese and his wife Maureen, Christopher Martinese, and Adam Martinese; his sister, Frances Boenis Depontbriand and her daughter Jessica DePontbriand; his beloved lab, Lily and many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and step grandchildren.

His funeral took place on Friday, November 5 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell and interment followed at the Westlawn II Cemetery, also located in Lowell. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church (62 Lewis Street Lowell, MA 01854).
