Memory Eternal – Nick Kanellos

DANVERS, MA – Nick Kanellos, Age 84, of Peabody, MA died on May 20, surrounded by his loving family at the Kaplan family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Penelope (Triant) Kanellos, with whom he shared over 55 years of marriage. Born in Vassara Sparta, Greece, he was the son of the late Haralambos and Maria (Panos) Kanellos. He was raised and educated in Greece, later lived in Saugus, and has spent the last years living in Peabody.

Nick was the proud owner of the Liberty Bell Roast Beef in South Boston for over 35 years before retiring. He was a member of the Vassara Society, Pan Laconian Society, and Hermes Men’s Club and a longtime and active member of St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Lynn, participating in many activities at the church.

He was an avid gardener and tended his garden faithfully up until his recent illness. Besides his loving wife Penelope, Nick is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Sandra Kanellos of Middleton; his beloved granddaughter, Isabella Kanellos; his brother, Peter and his wife Helen Canellos of Squantum, MA; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ross and Angelike Triant of Chelsea, Dimitri Triantafillakis of Charlotte, NC, George and Janet Triant of Winthrop, Gail Triant of Danvers, and Irene Canelos of AZ. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his siblings, George Canelos, Ioannis Kanellos, Georgia Varelas, Diane Chiochios, and his brother-in-law, Willie Triant. His Funeral Service was held on Thursday at 12:00 PM noon at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, Lynn, attended by relatives and friends. Burial took place in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elm St., Everett. Donations in his memory may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 54 S. Common St., Lynn, MA 01902.
