Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
BOSTON – Dr. Lemonia Fotiadis, 69, of Wellesley, MA, passed away surrounded by her family on July 7. She was born in Florina, Greece to Paraskevas and Palassa (Mandoulidis) Fotiadis. Lemonia came to the United States in 1972. She attended Northeastern University and earned a PhD in Physics and Mathematics. Initially, she worked in various research labs as a physicist, including stints with the Navy and Army, where she researched new materials for transistors. After her time with the Navy and Army, she returned to Boston and embarked on a new career in the IT field. She worked at the Massachusetts Public Health Department, Genzyme, and most recently at Sun Life Financial.
Lemonia loved animals, especially her four beloved pets: Elpida I, Elpida II, Leto, and Cleo. She cherished the ocean and enjoyed spending time at her home in Yarmouth. She also loved traveling to Hawaii. Lemonia had a green thumb and was one of the managers of public gardens in Wellesley, MA. She loved to cook, and her Greek cuisine was fabulous – she made the best pastitsio and bakalava, and her apple pie still remains unmatched. She was constantly coming up with new ways to revitalize old recipes.
She is survived by her devoted mother, Palassa (Mandoulidis) Fotiadis and was predeceased by her father, Paraskevas Fotiadis. She is also survived by her loving brother, Konstantinos Fotiadis and his wife, Efi Fotiadis and her nieces and nephews, Paraskevas Fotiadis, Palassa Katerina Fotiadis, Christina Fotiadis, and Paul Fotiadis.
The Funeral Service was held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 57 Brown St., Weston, MA. Burial was held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham, MA.
