Man, 84, Commits Suicide in Anthousa as Flames Approach

ATHENS – An 84-year-old man is believed to have taken his own life in the Athens suburb of Anthousa on Wednesday morning.

According to the police, they responded to a call reporting the sound of gunfire in a home at 7:10 on Wednesday morning and arrived to find the elderly man dead in a pool of blood in the garden, with the revolver beside him.

They are investigating, among others, reports that the 84-year-old committed suicide when he saw the flames from the major fire approach his home.
