Major Wildfire on Chios

CHIOS, Greece — A wildfire is currently in progress in the area Vavyli on Chios island. The fire broke out at approximately 10:00 on Wedneday and a few while ago and due to the strong winds blowing in the area and the size of the fire, the local authorities ordered the residents of Tholopotami and Sklavia to be on alert in case they need to evacuate the villages.

Firefighting forces are already in the area assisted by volunteers battling the three-front blaze while four water dropping helicopters and two firefighting aircraft Canadair are expected to arrive at Chios shortly.
