FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – The Fort Lauderdale Pap Corps Chapter held a Loukoumades for Mother’s Day event at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Fort Lauderdale on May 8. The delicious Greek fried dough drenched in syrup topped with walnuts, cinnamon, and powdered sugar was made by the same team that makes them for the community’s annual Greek Festival. The team, Joanne Eyeler, Mahi Kiriakopoulos and led by Karyl Zitis, also known as the “Loukoumades Queen of South Florida,” prepared over 1,000 loukoumades. Members of the congregation enjoyed the special treat during the coffee hour after the Sunday service and many took orders home. Members of the Pap Corps Chapter, Cindy Zitis, Eva Planakis, Denise Filosofos, Stella Androustopoulos, and Stephanie Pavlakis assisted with assembling and serving the orders. All proceeds from the sale support research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
