Lincoln Center Launches Legacies of San Juan Hill Website

NEW YORK – In the 1940s and ‘50s, the vibrant neighborhood of San Juan Hill on Manhattan’s Upper West Side was razed in the name of “urban renewal” and replaced by major developments including Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

Now, Lincoln Center is launching a new website hub to share stories from San Juan Hill through interviews with former residents, scholarly essays, photos, an interactive map, and more.

Building on a major grant that helped Lincoln Center reimagine its campus as a welcoming public space for all in the wake of the pandemic, ongoing support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) aims to help the cultural institution revisit its historical place in the neighborhood while engaging a wider range of audiences than ever.
