Lignadis Expected to Exit Prison after Posting Bail

ATHENS – Former actor and director Dimitris Lignadis, 58, is to be released from Korydallos prison on Thursday after paying the 30,000 euros set as bail for his release by a Mixed Jury Court, which found him guilty on two counts of raping 17-year-old boys on Wednesday.

Lignadis was sentenced to serve 12 years in prison, with the sentence suspended pending appeal. He has already managed to collect the sum set as bail and is expected to have completed the procedure for his release from Korydallos by the afternoon, after spending 17 months in jail on remand.

The court, which had earlier acquitted Lignadis for two of the four rape cases he was accused of, found that he met the requirements for the suspension of his sentence until appeal by a majority of 4-3, setting bail and terms of release. A minority in the court, two jurors and one judge, opposed his release.
