Letter to the Editor: Best Wishes for the New Year

January 13, 2023

To the Editor:

Happy New Year! With a full moon and the Holy Theophany-Epiphany and also the feast of the Three Kings, the New Year came in with the right foot and full of smiles of peace and the light that is true from the manger in Bethlehem to spread everywhere, more in the wounded countries where the inhabitants suffer and to bring health, peace, and freedom. Let everyone go back to their warm homes, let everyone dine together again as before as a family, let the schools open for the little children and also the churches. Let the faithful worship Your Nativity and sing together Your Nativity, Christ our God.

To all of us Greek immigrants everywhere on Earth, may He always give us health and strength to visit our homeland and our villages, where we were born and heard the gurgling water of the spring in the deep shade of plane trees and we live here in the foreign land with nostalgia and special love for our country, the immortal Greece. Thank you.

The recent tragicomic events at the church of the All-Holy Taxiarhes in the area of Megalo Revma of Constantinople, specifically, the assault by Archimandrite Chrysanthos on Metropolitan Athenagoras of Kydonion which involved the slapping of the archpriest's cheeks while he was venerating the icon of the Virgin Mary, are not only lamentable but also pitiful for the Patriarchate itself.
