Kyllini: Summer Holidays on Endless Beaches

At the gateway to the Ionian Sea, Kyllini serves as the rapturous synthesis of sea, sand, and history.

Hills with olive and lemon trees, exotic beaches, magical sunsets, boats leaving the port for the catch of the day and a rich historical and cultural heritage are proudly on display. With every sort of accommodation available, from ultra-luxurious hotels to camp sites, Kyllini guarantees comfortable organized holidays for families, couples and groups of friends; those seeking exciting excursions or just precious moments of tranquility.

Nearby Amaliada, with its fairytale beaches in the west and verdant wooded hills in the east, offers opportunities for excursions for those environmentally and archaeologically inclined.

Sea and Sun

At 6 km long, Loutra Kyllinis beach will have your young ones whooping with delight. But walk just a little further and the coastline reveals a charming contrast; Arkoudi, a tiny cove with fine sand, blue waters, and colorful little houses. Its cosmopolitan, island-like atmosphere will definitely strike a chord with trendsetters around the globe.

Less cosmopolitan, but with the distinction of a Blue Flag, Glyfa satisfies those who want a sandy beach combined with peace and quiet while popular Kourouta lends itself to water sports and activities of all kinds. In Palouki, visitors can have their fill of dives into the sea and relaxing star-lit evenings next to the gentle waves.

Crossing an artificial forest will bring travellers to the well-known beach Thines Vartholomiou, which owes its reputation to the blue waters and the exotic sandy coast.

Getting Cultural

From a range of important historic and archaeological sites, it is the imposing Castle of Chlemoutsi, rising over the village of Kastro for over eight centuries, that makes one of the grandest impressions. Two courtyards, domed halls, and towers take the visitor back to the heyday of Frankish rule.

Within sight of one castle are the remains of another, named Glarentza, adding a further touch of nobility to Andravida.

In the northern part of the agora of Ancient Ilida, the 4th century BC theatre still stands with its characteristic earthen auditorium.

At the foot of the ancient acropolis overlooking the archaeological site lies the Archaeological Museum of Ilida, whose exhibits give insights into both public and private life in antiquity.

Finally, the National Resistance Museum of Amaliada takes travellers to the 20th century and the years of the Nazi occupation and the Greek Resistance.

Religious Pilgrimage

Visitors can tour the Holy Monastery of Vlaherna, famous for the miraculous icon of Our Lady of Vlaherna. It is situated in a splendid valley, hospitable and open to the faithful, making its annual festival among the most warm-hearted events in the Peloponnese’s calendar. The 11th century Monastery of Fragavilla, one of the most famous monuments of Christian architecture in Ilia, also should not be missed.

Roman Baths of Kyllini

In the Thermal Baths of Kyllini, visitors can supplement all the fresh air from their seaside jaunts with some seriously relaxing hydro-therapy.

From now on, whenever the sea and sun mood takes hold of you, lift off for summer in captivating Kyllini!
