The Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Tyrnavos wine region, established in 1990, is one of Greece’s most significant viticultural areas. It has long been home to the cultivation of the white Roditis and red Muscat Black of Tyrnavos. Over the years, additional Greek and international varieties such as Malagousia, Limniona, and Chardonnay have been successfully introduced, producing a wide range of white, rosé, and red wines in dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, and sparkling or semi-sparkling styles.
Christos Zafeirakis, a fourth-generation winemaker, has been instrumental in shaping the region’s modern winemaking landscape. After studying Enology at the University of Athens, Christos pursued a Master’s degree in Winery Management at the University of Turin and the Agricultural University of Milan. He honed his craft by working in renowned Italian wine regions such as Piemonte, Alto Adige, and Tuscany. Upon his return to Greece in 2005, he planted his first organic vineyard.
Christos is considered one of the young, pioneering Greek winemakers and is widely credited with reviving the indigenous variety of Limniona, creating world class, elegant, fine wines while simultaneously leaving his mark on both Malagousia and Chardonnay with his distinct style.
Since its founding, Ktima Zafeirakis has been dedicated to sustainable practices, crafting wines that honor both people and the environment. The journey towards sustainability has been guided by principles that take into account the area’s unique microclimate, soil composition, and the rich tradition of viticulture in Tyrnavos. Vineyard management is thoughtfully planned to minimize intervention and preserve the natural biodiversity of the region. Organic cultivation has been practiced since 2005, and biodynamic methods have been incorporated since 2019, further enhancing the winery’s commitment to environmentally responsible winemaking.
The winery, located adjacent to its privately owned vineyards, features state-of-the-art machinery and production equipment, while the underground cellar houses oak casks and amphorae where wines are aged to perfection. Visitors to the estate can enjoy a tour of the vineyards before entering the tasting room to discover the full range of wines, including Malagousia, Malagousia Natura, Malagousia Microcosmos, Logos Chardonnay, Foothills Chardonnay, Limniona Rosé, Limniona New Age, Limniona, Limniona Terracotta, all PGI Tyrnavos wines.
We invite you to experience the exceptional wines and hospitality of Ktima Zafeirakis.
