Kerry Reaffirms Support for Talks

Secretary of State John Kerry spoke with newly-elected Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci on April 30. CNA reports that he reaffirmed America’s suppot “for the negotiation process conducted under the auspices of the UN and Special Advisor Eide to reunify the island as a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation.”
Marie Harf, a State Department spokeswoman , said that the Secretary of State “congratulated Mustafa Akinci on his election and wished him well as he assumes his role as leader of the Turkish Cypriot community,” and added that Kerry pledged that the U.S. is prepared to assist in the negotiation process.
