The American television series Altered Carbon is produced by the Greek-American screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis, also the founder of the pro-union website Hollywood United and was involved as a peacemaker in the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike that set films and TV series back.
She co-wrote the screenplay for Terminator Genisys and Alita: Battle Angel and brought the storylines of the Altered Carbon book to Netflix where it has a legion of adoring fans.
The series touches on several socially relevant topics, including paranoia about future technology, gender identity, and artificial intelligence and has gotten strong reviews for its production values but no date has been set for the next season so far.
Kalogridis, 54, was has emerged as a strong female presence in Hollywood, was born in Winter Haven, Florida. Her grandparents emigrated from the island of Kalymnos in the early 20th Century. She earned her MFA in the program for screenwriting at UCLA.
