International Open Call for the Artistic Program of 2023 ELEVSIS, ECoC

ATHENS – In 2023, the city of Elevsis will host the title of the European Capital of Culture (ECoC), presenting a multifaceted program entitled Mysteries of Transition. For the final configuration of its artistic program, the Municipal Single Societe Anonyme of the Cultural Capital of Elevsis, 2023 ELEVSIS addresses an International Open Call to individual artists, groups and organizations from Greece and abroad, for the submission of Proposals for new projects/actions that will take place during 2022 and 2023. The submission of the proposals opens on February 11 and ends on March 31.

Elevsis is the fourth European Capital of Culture hosted in Greece. Drawing inspiration from the rich history of the city, 2023 ELEVSIS forms a comprehensive artistic, research and educational program, the Mysteries of Transition, focuses on four strategic areas: Culture, People, City, and Environment. Accordingly there are three distinct and interconnected central themes of the program, People / Society, Environment, and Labor, reflecting the unique features of the city and the contemporary challenges both Elevsis and Europe are facing.

The proposed projects / actions, may relate to one or more thematic axes, one or more areas of art and creation. Indicatively, the following categories are mentioned, but without being a strictly restrictive field:

Music, Dance, Literature, Writing, Theater, Performance Art, Visual Arts, Installation Art, Digital Arts, Cinema/Film/Documentary, Photography, Games, Comic Art, Design, Digital Fabrication, Cultural Policy, Networking Events (Meetings, Conferences), Capacity Building Programs, Educational Programs, Community Engagement Projects, Artistic and Research programs for the public space and the environment, Interdisciplinary projects, etc.

The proposals submitted by the interested parties in the framework of this Open Call, will be evaluated by the General Artistic Directorate of 2023 ELEVSIS, according to the guidelines of the European Union on the European Capitals of Culture and the strategic objectives, artistic vision and themes set out by 2023 ELEVSIS.

Open Call Announcement: February 1, 2021

Deadline for submitting questions: February 10

Application open for submissions: February 11

Deadline for submissions: March 31

Project evaluation and selection: April 1-May 31

Final selection announcement: June 1

Implementation period: 2022 & 2023
