Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
LOS ANGELES – Actor James Karis, born in Belgium of Greek descent, is a cosmopolitan man of the world who speaks 10 languages. He has lived and worked extensively throughout Europe and Japan before relocating to the United States in 2017.
Karis has mastered the ability to transform himself, switch languages, and portray a wide range of characters across various genres. His unique appearance makes him ideal for diverse roles, while his distinctive voice has secured him hosting positions on radio, television, and in voiceover roles.
Highlights of his career so far include a live halftime promotion for U2 at Super Bowl LVIII at The Sphere, Las Vegas; a national Google commercial; a feature role in ‘Sonder,’ directed by Nadia Lee Cohen, starring Danny Trejo and Barbie Ferreira; and roles in the feature films ‘The Day God Died’ and ‘Dandelion Dance’ among others.
Karis has also appeared in ‘Dark Sunrise’ directed by Dimitri Theodor, the theater performance ‘Angel of Light,’ and in a music video with multiplatinum R&B artist Brent Fayaz which reached over 19 million views.
He co-stars in the film ‘7 Days to Hell,’ making its West Coast premiere at the Look Theater, 128 Artsakh Avenue in Glendale, CA, on Wednesday, July 17, 8 PM. The action/fantasy is the sequel to ‘8 Days to Hell.’
Karis spoke with The National Herald about his Greek roots and his latest projects.
When asked about his Greek roots, he told TNH: “My family comes from Evros, northeast Greece. My mother’s side from a charming village named Elia (‘olive’ in English) and my father’s side from Evgeniko meaning kind and gracious.”
Of his latest projects, Karis said: “My latest project, the film ‘Sonder’, was an absolute delight to work on, alongside the talented Danny Trejo and Barbie Ferreira, under the direction of the visionary Nadia Lee Cohen. The entire team brought immense passion and professionalism to the set, making it a truly glamorous experience.”
When asked about upcoming projects, Karis told TNH: “Currently, I’m thrilled to be working on the feature film ‘Dandelion Dance’ with the exceptional director Jennifer Jenkins Ertel. The on-set atmosphere is like a family, thanks to her wonderful leadership. I’m excited to be playing the role of a Greek instructor, sharing the joy of traditional Greek dances.”
