Installation of Huts in Chios Hotspot Interrupted; Police Operation Underway in Moria

MYTILENE, Greece – Works for the installation of container huts in the VIAL hotspot on Chios have been suspended, authorities announced on Thursday. According to sources, a local land owner has complained that his property was tresspassed upon during the transportation of the huts, with the trucks carrying the containers infringing on the borders of his land.

Meanwhile, a police operation is currently underway in the Moria hotspot in Mytilene.

Sources said that the operation is focused in the area where violent incidents broke out on Tuesday, in a part of the hotspot occupied by groups of male migrants.

According to the same sources, police are examining the residents’ asylum requests and searching the huts and tents where they live to find evidence of possible lawbreaking.
