Inner City Traffic Restrictions to Return in Central Athens from Monday

October 21, 2021

ATHENS — The familiar odds-evens system that allows vehicles to enter an area of central Athens known as the “Daktylios” only on alternate days is to return from next Monday, October 25. This year, however, it will be upgraded with its own digital platform and pass, as well as new rules regarding the vehicles that are exempt from the restrictions.

According to Digital Governance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, in statements on SKAI television on Thursday, his ministry is working with the transport ministry to set up the new electronic platform on the gov.gr portal where drivers, using their taxisnet codes, can find out if their vehicle qualifies for a “Daktylios” pass allowing them to freely enter central Athens.

“There will be a site where there will be two links: one will lead to the gov.gr platform for owners of hybrid vehicles and equivalent categories and the other to the platform for permanent residents,” the minister said.

Apart from low-emission vehicles that are exempt, other classes of vehicles are only allowed to enter the Daktylios on even days if their number plate is even or on odd days if their number plate is odd.
