In Potato Land Idaho, Pocatello’s Greek Festival Big Draw

It's not the first place you think of for a vibrant Greek-American community but Pocatello, Idaho has it, as well as a half century tradition of celebrating Greek culture, food, dance, and music with an annual Greek festival.

It's coming back this year after, like most others, being boxed out in 2020 by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church there leading the way as usual, people eager to have it back.

“It’s a delightful family affair, it really is,” Parish Priest Constantine Zozos told The East Idaho News. “I know many people were disappointed, as we were disappointed, that we could not have it last year. This, I think, is going to be better than ever.”

The festival takes place Aug. 21, becoming a loved annual affair after starting off as a way to raise money for the church.

The event will showcase a Greek ethnic dancing troupe and Greek music, which will be playing throughout the festival, the paper said.

“This is something people really look forward to, and we’re excited it’s back this year after not happening last year.”
