September 11, 2023

CHICAGO – The Hellenic Professional Society of Illinois (HPSI) will host an evening Meet & Greet with award-winning author Nektaria Anastasiadou at Greek Islands Restaurant, 200 S. Halsted Street in Chicago’s Greektown, on Wednesday, September 27.

Based in Constantinople, Anastasiadou is the 2019 winner of the Zografeis Agon, a Greek-language literary award founded in 19th century Constantinople. Her debut novel, A Recipe for Daphne (Hoopoe, 2021), was shortlisted for the 2022 Runciman Award and long-listed for the 2022 Dublin Literary Award. It was also a finalist (with an Honorable Mention) for the 2022 Eric Hoffer Book Award and a 2021 Women’s National Book Association (U.S.) Great Group Read.

Her second novel, Στα Πόδια της Αιώνιας Άνοιξης/ Beneath the Feet of Eternal Spring (Papadopoulos, 2023), was released in Greece this summer. It is the first novel published in the Istanbul Greek dialect.

Anastasiadou’s writing has also been included in syllabi at Boğaziçi University, Bilkent University, and Boston College. She is currently serving as a Writer in Residence at the prestigious International Writing Program at the University of Iowa. The author will visit several communities in the U.S. during her residency. This event will be her only Chicago appearance.

Doors open at 6 PM for the event. A Q&A will be moderated by journalist and author Maria A. Karamitsos, founder and former publisher and editor of WindyCity Greek magazine. Copies of A Recipe for Daphne will be available for purchase and signing at the event, courtesy of Volumes Bookcafe in Chicago, a Greek-owned independent bookstore. The event is free and open to the public. Cash bar will be offered.

The Hellenic Professional Society of Illinois (HPSI) was founded in 1925 by a small group of professionals who shared a love of conversation, intellectual debate, and a thirst for knowledge, beauty, and wisdom. HPSI is one of the longest surviving organizations of the Chicago Hellenic Community. Since its inception, HPSI has served as a meeting ground for professionals of Hellenic descent and hosts events throughout the year. Learn more about HPSI online: www.hpsi.org.
