How YouTubers Become Millionaires

YouTube is the only social media platform that has more active users than Facebook, reaching over 2 billion. It has opened the gateway for individuals to voice their opinions and share their daily life, marking the beginning of the Youtuber era.

From creating content for fun to making millions of dollars through online exposure, users today can transform what used to be their hobby into a full-time, high-paying job. The requirements are simple: Put yourself out there, share your daily life, and don’t be afraid to speak up about current issues. These are only a few characteristics which define the golden path of successful YouTube personalities.

Since its initiation in 2005, the social media platform has seen a rapid increase in popularity due to the variety of content it provides the audience, allowing various categories of videos to be shared online such as sports, music, news, tutorials, Q&A’s, and snippets of TV shows.

In order to be a successful YouTuber, you need to attract a certain type of fanbase which will loyally follow you throughout your career. Construction of an image is a major factor when entering the YouTube world as the audience you want to attract reflects on the content you will produce.

The power of this platform is evident as it has introduced a new idea and image of a celebrity. Once a YouTuber has built a strong fanbase, they have the ability to influence a vast crowd in the same way any other big name would.

Popularity therefore is seen through another lens, different than the typical media lens as the YouTubers portray themselves as ‘one of us’. Automatically, the audience views the charm behind the fact that anyone could become like the personality they watch on the Internet, thus forming not only respect between them but also relatability. This concept is key because the viewer believes that they could also be in this position if they wish. No longer are celebrities only associated with money, fame, and expensive cars; vloggers living normal everyday lives depict a new image which challenges the stereotype.

Self-image is significant, and typically, celebrities get monitored when building their image, but Youtubers have the opportunity to do that themselves, which seems more innocent to the audience.

Throughout the years, the platform itself has undergone a transformation from being a platform where videos are posted, to gradually changing and becoming one of the biggest investments in the world, as companies give millions for advertisements to be associated with these videos. YouTubers play a part in this as some of the ads are part of their own videos.

From YouTube’s own revolution that transformed the platform to personas turning into millionaires, social media, therefore, proves to be a powerful tool in the culture we live in, showing that it can intertwine with a world of money, recognition, and success, establishing a strong base for anyone who wishes to enter.
