Holiday Magic Returns to the SNFCC!

ATHENS – Once again this year on December 1, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) will flip the switch to turn on its festive lights and celebrate the beginning of the holiday season.

The SNFCC Christmas World, made possible through an exclusive grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), will feature the return of the ice rink at the Canal, light installations at Stavros Niarchos Park, Christmas tales at the Lighthouse, and, of course, countless activities and workshops for kids and families. The holiday events would not be complete without music: the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra will give a special concert with pieces from our favorite musicals in Stavros Niarchos Hall (26/12), and Alexia will perform with the orchestra and the El Sistema Greece choir (19/12).

The events will culminate on New Year’s Eve, as we welcome the new year at the SNFCC with a spectacular firework show, a huge party at the Agora, and the traditional SNF RUN: 2023 FIRST RUN.

Check out the full program of holiday events at the SNFCC.

ATHENS - The sea turtle populations in Greece, including on the islands of Zakynthos and Crete, as well as Cyprus are coming back after years of decline, spurred by plans to protect them and the work of activists and conservationists in the field.

NICOSIA - In what likely will further impede any hope of reviving the divided island, the Turkish-Cypriot occupied side is going ahead with plans to revive the abandoned resort of Varosha that has been shut down since 1974 Turkish invasions.
