Hellenikon Casino, Skaramaga Shipyards Fast-Track Bill Passes First Reading

ATHENS – The first reading of a Finance Ministry bill ratifying the concession for the casino at Hellenikon project and legislating the restart of the Skaramagas Shipyards was completed at the Greek Parliament’s Standing Committee on Economic Affairs on Friday.

The bill was accepted in principle by ruling New Democracy, rejected by the Communist Party of Greece and MeRA25, while Syriza-Progressive Alliance (main opposition), Pasok-Kinal and Greek Solution reserved judgement for the plenary.

Voting on the fast-track bill is scheduled in plenary on Tuesday, June 28, after debate and following its second reading the day before.

Also included in the draft law is a provision extending the reduced VAT rates for tickets, food places, gyms, dance schools, and non-alcoholic beverages to the end of 2022, provisions for returns of VAT and property tax (ENFIA), and provisions for an alternative taxation of income accrued abroad by individuals.
