Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
SPETSES – The Hellenic American Women’s Council (HAWC) Spetses celebration to honor the Hellenic Heroines on June 26-28 at the Anargyrios & Korgialenios Foundation Estate ("Anargyrios") in Spetses, Greece, will also be available online for those not attending in person. On Sunday, June 27, 10:45 AM-12:30 PM Greek Time, the Panel Discussion: Hellenic Heroines – Laskarina Bouboulina, Manto Mavrogenous, Despina Achladioti, Lady of Ro, features Pavlos Demertzis-Bouboulis, a 6th generation descendant of the Greek revolutionary heroine Laskarina Bouboulina who will speak about his ancestor, Laskarina. He is the Director of the Bouboulina Museum in Spetses and a graduate of the Business School at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. Dr. Annita Prassa, a historian specializing in Greek History of 19th and 20th centuries will speak about Manto Mavrogenous. Her research interests include the history of Greek and European Education, Greek Enlightenment, and Greek Revolution. Acclaimed Greek actress and HAWC member, Fotini Baxevani will talk about Despina Achladioti, the Lady of Ro. During the evening, she will perform the play, The Lady of Ro, and transform into Despina, the patriotissa who became a national legend.
