Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
ATHENS – Theatre of the No, the first English theatre in Athens, hosts the Gypsy Jazz Trio of K. Mitropoulos for two special nights, Saturday, September 28 and October 19, 10:30 PM, offering the audience a unique musical experience. The renowned guitarist from Gadjo Dilo forms a trio dedicated to the legendary French-Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt (1910-1953) and the tradition of Manouche or Gypsy Jazz.
The Gypsy Jazz Trio’s repertoire consists of compositions and arrangements recorded by Reinhardt himself, blending the retro atmosphere of the 1930s and ’40s with a fresh and creative approach. The trio aims to revive the authentic sound of this enchanting musical era, providing listeners with a genuine and authentic jazz experience.
Konstantinos Mitropoulos was born and lives in Athens. He studied jazz guitar and orchestration, earning scholarships from Berklee College of Music and Fender, gaining experience with esteemed music teachers.
He has collaborated with various artists such as F. Delivorias, D. Korgialas, E. Peta, Evridiki, A. Vardis, G. Vardis, Mary Linda, Anna Vissi, V. Germanos, Kostas Maraveyas, P. Mouzourakis, Tonino Carotone, Nikos Siderokastritis, G. Limakis, T. Anagnostopoulos, A. Leventopoulos, and L. Andrioti. He has worked as a guitar and theory instructor for many years at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory and MOMI.
In parallel, he has composed music for commercials, theatre, and cinema. In 2009, he formed the band Gadjo Dilo, which has released two studio albums and several digital singles, along with hundreds of concerts in Greece (and some abroad), continuing to this day. He has released two personal albums: Contemplation (2016) and Instinct (2022) with Nikos Siderokastritis. He loves cats, reading, traveling, and Django Reinhardt.
Theatre of the No background: Τhe first English theatre in Athens, opened its doors on April 18 and aims to establish itself as a meeting place that promotes artistic innovation, cultural exchanges, and dialogue within the local and global community. With a diverse repertoire of classic and contemporary works, it seeks to challenge and inspire audiences, creating transformative experiences.
