GSEE Announces 24-Hour Labour Day Strike on May 4

ATHENS — The General Confederation of Employees of Greece (GSEE) has announced a 24-hour nationwide strike on Tuesday, May 4 to mark Labour Day. This is normally observed on May 1, which this year coincides with Holy Saturday in the Orthodox calender, however.

"At a time when workers and all of Greek society are experiencing the tragic problems caused by the pandemic, information that is being made public concerning the deleterious changes in labour issues, where even the eight-hour day is being targeted, make the challenges and problems even greater," GSEE said in an announcement, adding that trade unions must be ready to fight back and cancel the policies targeting labour rights, including through further strike action.
