Greek Tourism Min: We Must Turn the Crisis into an Opportunity

ATHENS — Tourism Minister Haris Theoharis on Friday tabled five proposals for a sustainable, resilient and tourism model without exclusions at an International Energy Forum on the repercussions of the pandemic on the energy market, air transport and tourism.

"The pandemic revealed an opportunity for different and more authentic experiences. We must turn the crisis into an opportunity," said the Greek minister and presented the five proposals which are: a common strategy without horizontal restrictions, invigorating demand, investing in research on a vaccine, support for the industry and the strategic adjustment.

Speaking on the results of the first months of the pandemic, he said that the sudden and abrupt drop of arrivals put millions of jobs and enterprises at risk, adding that the return to 2018 levels in terms of tourist arrivals will take two and a half to four years.
