Greek Police Arrest Man Involved in Smuggling 21.5 Kg of Heroin from Turkey

ALEXANDROUPOLIS — A foreign national was arrested on Friday afternoon and two accomplices were being sought in the borders with Turkey for trying to smuggle 21.5 kilos of heroin.

The Orestiada police and drug squad arrested the man as he had parked a private truck on the Ormenio-Ardanio national road and his accomplices were loading two bags of the drug. Police found the bags contained 70 packages of heroin that the two had smuggled to Greece through the Evros River.

A file was drawn against the driver with charges of membership in a criminal organization and violations of drug laws and he was led before the Orestiada prosecutor. Besides the heroin, authorities confiscated two mobile phones.
