PARIS – Video was posted on social media of the Greek men’s Olympic water polo team lifting a parked car out of the way so their bus could get through one of the narrow streets of Paris during this year’s Olympics, drawing several comments about the team’s “Olympic strength” and the “Greek spirit,” according to various media reports, including the New York Post and the UK’s Daily Mail.
France 24 journalist Bahar Makooi filmed the scene which showed members of the Greek team lifting a parked car out of the way of their bus while coaches and other passersby were also filming.
The team was participating in the first weekend of competition in the preliminary round of Group A at the time. They beat Romania 14-7 on July 28 and then went on to beat Montenegro 17-16 on July 30 after the game ended in a tie 12-12 and went to a penalty shoot-out.
Greece then took on the United States on August 1, winning 13-11. On August 3, Croatia edged Greece 14-13.
The Greeks face Italy next on August 5 to close out the preliminary round.
