Greek Man Arrested After Shooting and Killing His Wife

ATHENS — A 54-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, shortly after shooting and killing his 43-year-old wife in Sotiritsa, on the Larissa coast.

SYRIZA: Government and police must take action to curb violence against women

"The seventh femicide in seven months and the government and Hellenic Police are not only continuing to fail to take institutional action to address this but are also unable to understand that there is an unprecedented rise in gender and domestic violence, especially after the months-long confinement of the citizens," main opposition SYRIZA said in an announcement on Tuesday, following the killing of yet another woman by her husband.

The main opposition also noted the failure of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis "to reprimand his deputy minister, Mrs Syreggela, who instead of taking institutional initiatives said that the rise was only in the reporting of incidents and that it was not a big deal since there were more femicides in Mexico".
