Greek Lawmaker’s Home Targeted in Attack Using Gas Canisters

ATHENS – Unknown individuals targeted the apartment block where ruling New Democracy MP Babis Dimitriou resides in the Athens district of Pagrati for an attack with a makeshift gas-canister explosive device in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to police, the culprits set off the gas canister ‘bomb’ just before 4:30 in the morning, causing damage to the building’s entrance. A police bomb disposal unit was among those responding to the incident.

The attack was unconditionally condemned by government spokesperson Yiannis Economou and several government ministers, while main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance issued an announcement saying that the attack “was an unacceptable and self-evidently reprehensible action.”
