Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
LITTLE NECK, NY – Greek Islands restaurant celebrated Greek Independence Day with an impressive musical evening on March 24 featuring the talented artists of our diaspora, Takis Elenis, Tasos Papaioannou, and George Stathos, performing a range of beloved songs beginning the program with the Thourios of Rigas Feraios.
The virtuoso Takis Elenis of the famous Trio Bel Canto performed on the bouzouki and especially moved the audience with his performance on the song ‘Perasmenes mou agapes’ by Manolis Chiotis, which was first performed by the Trio Bel Canto!
As always, the warm and melodious voice of Tasos Papaioannou with his guitar entertained the audience with his wide repertoire including everything from popular songs and rembetika to traditional folk and island music.
The musical scene was completed by George Stathos whose clarinet sang all evening and especially in the classic ‘Mia voskopoula agapisa.’
It was a fantastic evening that will be remembered for many, many years by all who were lucky enough to be present.
