CHIOS, Greece – A 48-year-old man was on Monday remanded in custody at Chios island’s court prison for shooting and wounding two Syrians, both aged 16, last Wednesday.

According to reports, the man allegedly shot the two teenagers when he found them inside his greenhouse.

The same day last week, a group of young men who live in the adjacent refugee camp had attacked the man with sticks and stones; four of them were charged with misdemeanors, police on the island said.

The Chios islander has been accused in the past of threatening refugees with a rifle, but was later acquitted of charges.
