ATHENS — Greek industrial production recorded the second largest percentage increase among EU member-states in November 2020, Eurostat said in a report on Wednesday.

The EU executive’s statistics agency said industrial production in Greece grew 6.3 pct in November from October and rose by 8.8 pct in comparison with November 2019.

In the EU, industrial production rose 2.3 pct on a monthly basis and eased 0.4 pct on an annual basis. Ireland (40.8 pct) recorded the biggest percentage increase on an annual basis, while Bulgaria (5.0 pct), France (4.9 pct) and Italy (4.2 pct) the biggest percentage declines.

Production of capital goods rose 7.0 pct in the EU in November from October, while production of intermediate goods rose 1.5 pct. Production of durable goods fell 1.2 pct and of energy dropped 3.9 pct in the same period.

ATHENS – On top of nearly doubled electric bills, gas near $10 a gallon, food taxed at 24 percent and prices rising out of sight, many Greeks now can't afford rents that are soaring even during the easing COVID-19 pandemic.
