As Elaine Kakambouras, GGT Director of Education, noted: “Since March of 2020, class sizes were reduced in order to provide more individualized attention to our students which resulted in an increase of our programs from nine classes to fifteen classes. Despite the inability to host fundraisers to offset the increase in expenses due to COVID, it was decided to take this approach as this was the most educationally sound decision for our students. Remote instruction was supplemented with extra-curricular online activities including a Vasilopita Workshop and a socially distanced outdoor Πρωτομαγιά (May Day) activity. Students, teachers, and family members saluted May 1st, International Labor Day, to celebrate the start of spring. Students learned about the custom of collecting wildflowers and creating beautiful wreaths which has its roots in ancient Greece. GGT and Petalouda Flower Market (@petlaouda_flowers) partnered together and hosted two sold out, outdoor workshops to celebrate Protomagia.” Kakambouras continued, “participants designed wreaths of lavender, eucalyptus and palms to hang on their front doors. GGT looks forward to resuming enrichment programs and social gatherings this year to reinforce our students’ knowledge and appreciation of our Greek culture and heritage.”
