ATHENS – In another of growing sexual scandals in Greece, the former drummer of a popular Greek rock band was accused by five women of raping them – and others – when they were still minors.
He was identified as Giorgos Giannopoulos, 70, who had been with the band Pyxlax, and who in 2013 was sentenced to 12 years in jail for seducing a minor but remained free on probation, his appeal to be heard in April, said Kathimerini.
The women who brought the accusations said the rapes occurred when they were under 12 years old, no explanation given why it wasn’t reported at the time or if their parents knew.
One of the lawyers in the case told state broadcaster ERT that two of the five women were as young as 8 and 11 years old when they said he sexually assaulted them in different ways.
Lawyer and criminologist Panos Papaioannou added they have also given investigators the names of more women who were victims when they were children and that Giannopoulos sexually abused many girls for years.
