Greek FM Welcomes Croatia-Italy EEZ Agreement

ATHENS – The Greek Foreign Affairs Ministry welcomed on Tuesday the agreement between Croatia and Italy delimiting the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the Adriatic Sea on the basis of International Law, especially the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

In a statement, the ministry called on all regional countries “to comply with UNCLOS, which is, as is well known, part of the customary international law.” The Croatia-Italy agreement provides another example of how EEZ issues should be resolved in the Mediterranean region and in general.

Greece, it said, follows this practice faithfully, as it has already signed two such agreements with Italy and Egypt, and has agreed with Albania to jointly submit their EEZ issue to the International Court at The Hague on the basis of the Law of the Sea.
