ATHENS – The cost of the new social security and pension system lies within the country’s financial framework, Finance Minister Christos Staikouras stated on Thursday, opening the third and last day of the parliamentary debate on labour ministry’s draft bill entitled “Social security reform and digital transformation of the National Social Security Body (e-EFKA).

He underlined that the new system is fairer and will help boost employment and productivity, while also cultivating social insurance awareness.

The process will begin with a roll-call vote on the new pension system in principle and on provisions abolishing the “13th pension” requested by main opposition SYRIZA.
