Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
BERLIN – A tragedy unfolded in Kunzelsau, near Stuttgart, Germany, when a 61-year-old Greek man killed his 50-year-old Greek wife, the mother of two minor children, and then attempted to take his own life.
On Friday afternoon, September 13 emergency services were called to an apartment in the town of 16,500 residents. When they found the man bleeding and saw the the nature of his injuries, they called the police. Police officers who arrived at the apartment complex discovered the injured man and subsequently found his wife dead. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The police believe that he inflicted the injuries on himself while attempting to commit suicide. One day later, on Saturday afternoon, his condition stabilized, and he was arrested based on a warrant from the regional court of Ohringen.
The prosecutor’s office is investigating the case as involuntary manslaughter, though the charges are expected to be upgraded. An autopsy has already been ordered to clarify the circumstances of the woman’s death.
The news has shocked Nikisiani, a town in Kavala province, the hometown of both the victim and the perpetrator. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
