Greek Defence Min Attends Welcome Event for Historic MJ755 Spitfire

ATHENS — Defence Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos attended on Tuesday an event to welcome the Hellenic Air Force's historic MJ755 Spitfire, "A legendary flying machine, maybe the most historic military aircraft is here in front of us" from the air force base of Dekeleia.

On his part, the president of the ICARUS foundation Peter Livanos underlined that the Spitfire symbolises "Democracy struggles against tyranny" adding that "I consider very important for the next generations to know the sacrifices of the previous generations for liberty".

The ceremony attended, among others, Deputy Defence Minister Alkiviadis Stefanis, the UK Ambassador to Greece Kate Smith, the Chief of the Army's General Staff Lieutenant General Haralambos Laloussis and the Chief of the Navy's General Staff vice admiral Stylianos Petrakis.
