Greek Army Chief Has Series of Meetings in Washington

WASHINGTON – Hellenic National Defence General Staff chief, General Konstantinos Floros, had a meeting with his United States counterpart, General James McConville, and Greece’s Ambassador in Washington, Alexandra Papadopoulou, during an official visit to the United States.

At the meeting with General McConville, held on Monday, there was a discussion of defence and security issues pertaining to Ukraine, the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean and about the deepening of Greek-US military cooperation on the level of the army and the updated Mutual Defence Cooperation Agreement (MDCA).

In a post on Facebook regarding his meeting earlier on Monday with Ambassador Papadopoulou, General Floros underlined that “the centre of the discussion” was “the multi-level deepening of relations between Greece and the US as a result of the collective and continuous effort….[to] highlight our common values and interests” but also “to consolidate security and stability in our region.”

In addition, in another post, the head of GEETHA mentioned a visit to the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) where he met with the president Nick Larigakis and members of AHI and “we discussed their important efforts to strengthen Greece-US cooperation and our common vision for security and stability that always keeps us on the right side of history”.

The HNDGS leader also met with the president and CEO of the Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA) Michael Makovsky and JINSA representatives.

As stated by General Floros in his post on Facebook “we exchanged views on security and stability in the Euro-Atlantic area and in the Mediterranean, on the war in Ukraine as well as on matters of strategy, capabilities and cooperation of Greece, Cyprus, Israel and the USA.”

Other meetings held on Monday included meetings with Greek-American expatriate organisations, such as the leadership of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), Jimmy Kokotas και Basil Mossaidis, and representatives of the OHI Day Foundation, Andrew Manatos and Mike Manatos.

Finally, General Floros met the Greek military personnel stationed in Washington, congratulating them on their efforts to promote Greek-American defence cooperation.
