Greek Anti-Terror Cops Target Armed Youth Gangs Threats

December 17, 2021

ATHENS – A team from Greece’s elite counter-terrorism unit EKAM on Dec. 17 was dispatched to the neighborhood of Zefyri west of the capital Athens after a video showed young residents holding weapons and firing into the area.

That was posted on social media and was reportedly directed as a threat to members of rival gangs in the wider area of Ano Liosia, said Kathimerini, with police also said to be invetigating if it was tied to an armed attack earlier at an Athens cafe reportedly run by a powerful family.

Sources not named told the newspaper that law enforcement operations earlier had gone after drug addicts but not arresting drug traffickers supplying them before the counter terror squads were sent there.

ATHENS – After vowing to keep out refugees and migrants – and denying reports of pushing them back – Greece's New Democracy government is going to extend a fence along the northern border with Turkey by the Evros River.
