ATHENS – The National Hellenic Student Association of North America is organising a volunteer beach-cleaning initiative along the seabed and the coast of Saronida in Attica. The event will take place on July 7 in collaboration with the Ethelon volunteer organisation and The Hellenic Initiative (THI).

According to Alexandros Thomopoulos, President of the NHSA, various volunteer activities in Greece not only contribute to the cultivation of environmental sensitivity but also help Greek-American students maintain their ties with Greece.

“The NHSA believes that this beach cleaning initiative offers an opportunity for diaspora Greeks and the local community to pool their efforts to restore the beautiful beaches of Greece and to educate young volunteers to help prevent future environmental damage. As plastics and other waste continue to accumulate in record volumes in the oceans and along the coasts, the damage caused to global ecosystems requires our immediate attention. For this reason, NHSA calls on all Greeks and friends of Greece to participate in this effort,” the Greek-American organisation said.
