ATHENS – For thousands of years, Greece has served as an inspiration to creative thinkers: scientists, inventors, writers, artists, and the like. Celebrating the essence of Greece as a muse, Greek-American sisters Anthe and Vasiliki Mitrakos have published their 10th edition of Portes Magazine – a curated collection of unique stories and images celebrating Greek culture and art. From humble beginnings to becoming a beacon of cultural celebration, Portes has been a labor of love and a testament to the power of creativity.
Printed and hand-numbered in Greece, Portes features 120 full color pages designed to inspire and journey readers to a magical place. Inside the book, collectors will discover stories on the enigmatic Cycladic figurines, traditional Cycladic recipes, interviews with featured artists inspired by Greece, cut-out crafts featuring museum artifacts, and so much more.
The book’s minimal, yet sophisticated aesthetics pay tribute to Hellenic design. The book features four different covers, of which subscribers get to select their favorite. Limited edition copies of only 250 per featured cover artist are available via subscription with a donation to Ariston Foundation at portesmagazine.com.
“Our adoration of Greece and belief that culture is a priceless gift meant to share with others are what sparked the launch of Portes over a decade ago. As the notion of Greece as an inspiration began to once again bloom, we took it upon ourselves to collect and present this vibrant energy through carefully curated stories and images,” says Vasiliki Mitrakos.
Portes No. 10 – a tribute to creativity and the Cycladic culture – highlights 10 years of featured guests and includes interviews with Greek and Greece-inspired artists including Prince Nikolaos, Cacao Rocks, and Caroline Vyzas, among others.
“It is an honor that through Portes, we have had the pleasure of meeting truly incredible individuals to whom Greece is a muse. It is through conversations and inspired research that we create the curated Portes collection,” says Portes editor Anthe Mitrakos. “Readers relish the tactile experience of flipping through a physical copy in their hands – the aroma of paper, the intricately printed artwork, the carefully curated design – each issue a work of art in itself.”
Established on Greek Independence Day in 2011, Ariston Foundation publishes Portes Magazine, and supports cultural projects and academic scholarships.
