Greek-American Philanthropist John G. Rangos, Sr. Praised by Archbishop of Athens

ATHENS – The international humanitarian organization International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) that has been collaborating with Apostoli for the past 10 years announced that the philanthropic institution the John G. Rangos, Sr. Charitable Foundation, with headquarters in Pittsburgh, is donating $100,000 to IOCC for the continuation of its programs in Greece.

Mr. John G. Rangos, Sr., co-founder of IOCC, made this generous donation to encourage and motivate more donors to contribute to doubling this amount, for the strengthening of IOCC and Apostoli programs in Greece. Through his philanthropic foundation over the years, Mr. Rangos has donated more than $3,000,000 to support IOCC’s global work.

“Whether it’s equipment for microbusinesses and agricultural associations, hot meals for the poor, or medical supplies, the forward-looking programs IOCC provides are a way to offer help with a lasting impact,” Mr. Rangos said. “IOCC gives Orthodox Christians a way to put into action Christ’s word, particularly in precarious times like today, when so many people are suffering, whether it’s Greece’s economic crisis, or the Holy Land.”

Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece expressed his gratitude both for the support of Greeks in the United States during the difficulties that Greece faces and for the great long-term cooperation between IOCC and Apostoli. “The contribution of the Greek expatriate Mr. John Rangos,” His Beatitude noted, “proves in action his love for his country of origin, but also the power and solidarity of Hellenism worldwide, which continues unwaveringly to stand generously in support of the motherland.”
